Among the four sacred months, Muharram is considered the second holiest month after Ramzan. The day is observed by Muslims across the world. The day is observed by both Sunni and Shia Muslims worldwide. According to the report, while Shia Muslims mourn the battle of Karbala, Sunni Muslims observe a fast as a mark of gratitude to Prophet Muhammad. The Shia Muslims mark the ceremonial mourning on this day and it's called Ashura.
Shia Muslims mourn the demise of Husayn Ibn Ali who is also known as Imam Hussain and his family, as per the report by Zee news. People commemorate the sacrifices made by the martyrs. Therefore, Shia Muslims refrain from any festive event and do not join in any joyous moment that are celebrated during Muharram. According to DNA, Shia Muslims across the world mourn the death of the Imam on this day which is called Ashura. They mark Muharram by flagellating themselves with sharp objects.
