A village named ‘Mana’, which is situated in Madhya Pradesh, had never seen a band being blown on a Dalit wedding before Chander Meghwal broke the monotony.
The reason why no bands were heard on Dalit weddings in Mana village is because Gurjars didn’t allow them to, saying that bands were meant for only ‘upper caste’.
Chander breaks the monotony:
Breaking the age old norm of Mana village, Chander ensured that a band is played on his daughter Mamta’s wedding. Chander had to make special arrangements for the same and a police force from three police stations had to be deployed.

Such a police deployment at a wedding though raised several brows, as the cops were well equipped with lathis, guns and tear gas.
Speaking on how he dared to break the age old custom, Chander said “The Gurjars don’t let us use band in our weddings, and ask us to limit ourselves to dhol”.
One of the police personnel present at Mamta’s wedding said “even though the Gurjars assured us they would not create any trouble, we didn’t take a risk and deployed over 2 dozen cops for security purposes”.
Even the bride seemed extremely excited about the monotony being broken on her big day.
