Congress Leader Raja Pateria Arrested By Police For 'Kill Modi' Remark

However, Pateria later said that his statement was manipulated and that his remarks were over the results of Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

New Delhi: Former Minister and Congress leader Raja Pateria was arrested by the Panna Police from his residence in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district on Tuesday morning in connection with his alleged "kill Modi' remark. An FIR was lodged against Pateria in Panna on Monday after a purported video of him surfaced on social media where he could be heard saying to "kill' Prime Minister Narendra Modi "in order to save the Constitution."

After his video surfaced on social media, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra ordered to register a case against Pateria.

“.....Modi will end elections. Modi will divide on the basis of religion, caste and language. The future of Dalits, tribals and minorities is in danger. If you want to save the Constitution, then be ready to kill Modi. Kill in the sense of defeating him,” Pateria told a meeting of Congress workers at Pawai town in Panna district, as quoted by news agency PTI.

However, Pateria later said that his statement was manipulated and that his remarks were over the results of Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. He said that his statement to finish PM Modi was in a political context and not in a literal sense.

Reacting to Pateria’s statement, Mishra ordered a case to be registered against Pateria.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan slammed the remarks saying, "Congress is not able to compete with Prime Minister Modi on the field, so a Congress leader is talking about killing Modi. Congress's true face is now being revealed", news agency ANI reported.

"An FIR is being registered against him (Pateria) and the law will take its course," he told PTI.

“This is a statement of a fascist mindset,” Mishra said while talking to ABP News and added, “this Congress is no more that of Mahatma Gandhi, it’s Italy’s Congress now.”

After a court rejected his bail plea, the Congress leader showed victory sign while coming out of the Court.

"It's a fight of ideology.I haven't said those words. I'm a follower of Mahatma Gandhi," he said.
