New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday, said that he feels like Muslims are living in an open jail wherever there is a Bharatiya Janata Party government in the country, as reported by news agency ANI.

Citing instances of violence against the minority community, he also remarked that there is "more respect for street dogs than for Muslims". “Wherever there is a BJP govt in the country it feels like Muslims are living in an open jail....There is more respect for the road dog than Muslims,” ANI quoted Owaisi as saying during an event.

In the video, he can be heard questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the treatment of Muslims in his home state Gujarat.

On Sunday, Owaisi reacted to the renaming of Tipu Express to Wodeyar Express. He took to Twitter and said that BJP will never be able to erase Tipu’s legacy. Owaisi said that the ruler irks the BJP because "he waged 3 wars against its British masters". "Another train could have been named after Wodeyars. BJP will never be able to erase Tipu’s legacy," he added.

The Railway Board renamed Tipu Express, which connects Mysuru with Bengaluru, as Wodeyar Express on Friday.

AIMIM chief also reacted to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's statement that there's a religious imbalance in India. "Don't fret, the Muslim population is not increasing, it's rather falling... Who's using condoms the most? We are. Mohan Bhagwat won't speak on this," ANI quoted Owaisi as saying.
