BJP's national president JP Nadda held a crucial meeting today with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu in Shimla. The discussions primarily centred around the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage caused by a recent natural calamity in the state, as well as the ongoing relief efforts.
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: NDRF Inspector, Roop Sharan says, "Today is the 7th day of the search & rescue operation in Shimla. We have recovered 17 bodies & we are searching for other three victims...Teams of SDRF, NDRF & Indian Army are present at the spot...We are putting in our best efforts & hoping to retrieve the other victims."
Search and rescue operations have been launched in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla after heavy rain lashed various parts of the city.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar undertook an aerial survey of five drought-affected districts in the state today.
Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, SP Shimla speaks on search and rescue operation following landslide incident in Shimla:
"16 bodies have been retrieved from debris till now. We have identified some areas which may be vulnerable to landslides and tree collapse and people from these areas are being evacuated to safer locations."
Devesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (Urban Development, Town & Country Planning) says, "CM has given guidance & we are making a comprehensive plan...A lot of roads have been damaged & there are buildings that are at risk...NDRF is doing a great job given the circumstance...."
Bharatiya Janata Party National President JP Nadda will visit Himachal Pradesh on August 20 to take stock of the devastation caused by heavy rains and floods in the state.

Uttarakhand CM on rain-led destruction in state:
"This year, the monsoon has been really active, which has led to a lot of destruction. The central government has sent a team on our request, and they are assessing the situation here. We are working to lessen the after-affects of the disaster and to bring back normalcy in the state by meeting affected people."
Rescue operations continue for the sixth day at the Shimla landslide site.
Nafees Khan, Inspector, NDRF says, "Today is the sixth day of the search & rescue operation. We retrieved 16 bodies yesterday. Our search operation is underway for four other bodies that have been reported. NDRF, SDRF & Army teams are present at the spot. We are doing everything manually..."

A resident says, "...Our building has become unsafe...Everyone residing there has left for their native places because they were not able to find a room here...I've never witnessed such a situation..."
IMD Shimla Director Surender Paul says, "Rainfall has decreased in the last 48 hours, and will continue to do so in the coming four days. However, rainfall is set to increase from August 21 to 23, but it won’t be as heavy as it was before."
A fresh spell of rain in Delhi has brought respite from the heat for the residents. However, several areas like Badarpur and Dwarka face severe waterlogging due to persistent showers in the city.

The monsoon is also being witnessed in parts of North India, including Delhi and Punjab.
As many as 15 houses collapsed and seven cowsheds were completely destroyed in subsidence and landslides at Jakhan village, part of Madrasu gram panchayat on Langha Road, 50 km from Uttarakhand's Dehradun on Wednesday, an official statement informed. At least 71 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the last three days in Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Wednesday, ANI reported.
A total of 2,038 people have lost their lives due to floods, lightning, and landslides in the monsoon season this year with Bihar reporting the highest casualty figure of 518 and Himachal Pradesh 330. Meanwhile, 101 people went missing and 1,584 received injuries during the rains and floods from April 1 to August 17, news agency PTI reported citing data prepared by the Union Home Ministry.
The details come as the government of Himachal Pradesh on Friday declared the whole state as a "Natural Calamity Affected Area".
The India Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in the national capital on Thursday. According to the weather office, the sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy over the next few days in Delhi. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 26 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, several areas of Gurdaspur got submerged following heavy rain lashing parts of the state. Several teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) were dispatched to conduct rescue operations in the flood-hit region. News agency ANI shared a visual from the area that showed waterlogged streets.
