As rains continued to batter states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, locals in the affected areas were seen tackling flooding and waterlogging in several parts of these states that witnessed heavy downpours. Parts of Delhi received light to moderate rainfall on Friday with more showers predicted tomorrow. Heavy rains were witnessed in most parts of the Nanded district of Maharashtra while Kolhapur Disaster Relief Force rescued a person stranded on a tree in the middle of the Warana River.


Telangana also has been receiving heavy rains for the past several days, causing low-lying areas to be inundated with road links disrupted.


Telangana


Bodies of eight persons who were swept away in the flood waters of a rivulet in Telangana's Mulugu district after heavy rains have been found, police said on Friday, as per news agency PTI. As per PTI's report, twelve members of a remote village in the district were swept away in flood water when they were moving towards a safer location on Thursday, but four of them managed to save themselves, police said. The bodies of the eight persons who went missing were found today.


Earlier on Thursday, PTI reported official sources stating that eight persons died in various rain-related incidents since July 22 in the state.


Meanwhile, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued people stuck in a flood using a boat in Warangal.






In the Parakala area, a road connecting Warangal to Medaram was damaged, causing inconvenience to commuters.






Delhi & Uttar Pradesh


Parts of Delhi witnessed light to moderate rainfall today with the maximum temperature in the city settling at 34.3 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed, as per PTI.



Heavy waterlogging was seen in several parts of Mathura after incessant rainfall in Uttar Pradesh. In a video posted by news agency ANI, a man could be seen wading through waist-deep water.









The national capital is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Saturday as well, as per the IMD. The weather office has predicted a generally cloudy sky and moderate rain in the national capital tomorrow. PTI reported an IMD official as informing that there would be a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain and thundershowers in the city. The maximum and minimum temperatures for Saturday are expected to settle around 34 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.


Maharashtra


Maharashtra's Latur district logged 27.2 mm rainfall in 24 hours with three tehsils recording heavy rains, PTI reported an official as saying on Friday. As per data shared by the administration, the district recorded 27.2 mm of rain in 24 hours ending 8 am and has received 248.3 mm of rain so far this season.  


Heavy rains were also witnessed in most parts of Nanded district with Dabhad circle in Ardhapur taluka logging over 255 mm rainfall in 24 hours till Friday morning, officials told PTI. The district has recorded 148.7 per cent rainfall so far.

Meanwhile, an alert for thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall is issued for districts of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region over the next four days and residents of several villages have been alerted about the possibility of flooding due to water discharge from dams in the vicinity, officials said, as per PTI.


The Regional Meteorological Centre, Nagpur has issued 'yellow' alert for the next four days for Nagpur, Wardha, Buldhana, and Gondia, for three days for Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati and for two days for Yavatmal, Buldhana, Akola and Washim.


Rajasthan


Several places in Rajasthan witnessed downpour in the past 24 hours, leading to waterlogging and traffic snarls in cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur on Friday. As per the met department, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Ajmer districts witnessed heavy rains on Thursday night, leading to knee-deep water on the key road stretches in many cities and towns.  A spokesperson of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre said that the monsoon is likely to remain active on Saturday in some parts of eastern and north-eastern Rajasthan, as well as some parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, and Kota divisions.

Gujarat


Several parts of south and central Gujarat in a 30-hour period saw heavy rains that caused waterlogging. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) informed that 19 talukas received more than 100 millimetres of rain between 6 am on Thursday and 12 noon on Friday. Mahuva taluka of Surat district received a 302 mm rainfall, officials said, as per PTI.


According to them, rains since Thursday resulted in several areas of Bodeli taluka in Chhotaudepur district in central Gujarat, Bardoli taluka in Surat district in south Gujarat and low-lying areas in Karjan taluka of Vadodara becoming inundated. Mahuva was followed by Navsari taluka of Navsari district (271 mm), Subir of Dang district (196 mm), Bardoli of Surat (201 mm), Jalalpore of Navsari (186 mm), Kaprada of Valsad (182 mm), Songadh of Tapi district (179 mm), Umargam of Valsad (167 mm), Pavi-Jetpur of Chhotaudepur (175 mm), Bodeli of Chhotaudepur (146 mm) and Jambughoda of Panchmahal (107 mm).


On Saturday and Sunday, IMD has forecast only light to moderate rain would occur in different parts of Gujarat.


Himachal Pradesh


The Meteorological Office has warned of heavy rain in the state till Saturday, which could lead to landslides, flash floods, mudslides, and increased flow of water in the rivers and drains.


The weather department also warned about moderate to high risk of flash floods in the Solan, Shimla and Sirmaur districts and predicted a wet spell in the state till August 3.


This comes as the National Highway-5 connecting Shimla and Kinnaur district was again closed due to landslides in the Broni drain and Khaneri on Friday.    


About 468 roads are still closed for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh, 552 transformers are damaged and water supply has been hit in 204 places, PTI reported.


So far, 184 deaths have been recorded in rain-related incidents and road accidents since June 24 when the monsoon hit the hill state. Thirty-three people are missing, as per the state emergency response centre. According to the administration, the inordinate rain this season has cost the state Rs 5,536 crore.
