New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi reached Lucknow & paid tributes to former chief minister Kalyan Singh. He passed away on Saturday night after ailing for some time.


The Prime Minister, accompanied by BJP president J.P. Nadda, flew to Lucknow on Sunday and drove straight to the veteran leader's residence in Mall Avenue where he paid floral tributes and spent about 25 minutes talking to family members of the late leader.

"Kalyan Singh ji made Jan Kalyan his life mantra. He worked for the development of UP & the nation. He became synonymous with honesty & good administration," tweets PM Narendra Modi.


While speaking to the press, PM Modi was quoted by ANI as saying, "We lost a capable leader. We should make maximum efforts by taking his values & resolutions to compensate for him; we should leave no stone unturned in fulfilling his dreams. I pray to Lord Ram to give Kalyan Singh a place by him & give strength to his family to bear this pain."






Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at Kalyan Singh's home to pay his respects. 




He war earlier quoted by ANI as saying, "Kalyan Singh's demise has caused irreparable damage. We shared an old relationship. I've known him since I was elected as MLA in 1977 when he became UP Health Minister. It's difficult to decide whether he was a leader, big brother or friend."
