'Modi Is A Duplicate, Not An Original': JDU Chief Lalan Singh On PM's Caste, Says BJP Is 'Messy Place'

Singh claimed that the BJP is a "messy place" and that people who joined the JD(U) after leaving the BJP did a tremendous job.

Rajiv Ranjan, also known as Lalan Singh, the national president of the Janata Dal (United), has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being duplicitous about his caste, claiming that while he was Gujarat's chief minister, PM Modi upgraded his caste to the OBC list. On Friday, Singh spoke to JD(U) party members and stated: "In 2014, Narendra Modi roamed the country saying he was from the Extremely Backward Class (EBC). There is no EBC in Gujarat, only OBC. When Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister he added his caste to OBC. He is a duplicate, not an original."

Singh claimed that the BJP is a "messy place" and that people who joined the JD(U) after leaving the BJP did a tremendous job. In addition, the JD(U) leader criticised the central government for its handling of the unemployment and inflation crises.

Singh added: "Inflation is never discussed, but Cheetah is discussed. Will the cheetah go hungry? Employment has been destroyed. The central government has no control over inflation. PM Modi never sold tea, does he even know how to make tea."

Notably, the Income Tax (IT) division conducted searches at various places in Patna on Friday, including the offices of builder Gabbu Singh in Shivpuri, Patel Nagar, and Boring Road. Lalan Singh, the leader of the JD(U), has tight ties with the builder Gabbu Singh.

This situation appears months after Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and the head of the JD(U), severed connections with the BJP, allied himself with the opposition, and assumed office as the state's chief executive for a record-eighth time. Even though the BJP was the biggest party running, the BJP-JDU coalition won the election in Bihar in 2020, and Nitish Kumar was appointed chief minister.

In less than two years, Nitish Kumar changed his mind and unexpectedly forged an alliance with the RJD and the Congress to establish a "Grand Alliance" government in Bihar.

Since Nitish Kumar broke up his coalition with the BJP and announced his intention to work with the RJD to form a government, the political landscape in the state has shifted. The JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPI(ML), CPI, and CPI(M) make up the Grand Alliance Bihar government, which has a combined strength of more than 160 in the House's 243 members.
