While addressing her party members at the Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, Sonia Gandhi lashed out at the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and PM Narendra Modi on every front.
She stormed on the ruling government by saying that they are 'selling the national assets' that were build 'over the years'. Gandhi said that the Modi government has put 'social goals' in jeopardy by its 'single-point agenda of Becho Becho Becho'.
"Could anyone in the country ever imagine that petrol prices would be over 100 rupees a lire, diesel would be nearing the 100 rupees a litre mark," she said.
Apart from pointing at the economic 'concerns', Gandhi also spoke at length about the Farmers Crisis, the Lakhimpur violence, growing prices of petrol and diesel, the violence in Kashmir. The only point where Sonia Gandhi felt that the Modi government has 'benefited' the nation was of Covid-19 vaccine procurement.
Sonia Gandhi began her speech by wishing former PM Manmohan Singh, a speedy recovery. The Congress President then spoke about the 'teen kaale kaanoon' (Three Black Farm Laws) and how they were 'bulldozed' to benefit 'some companies'.
On Kashmiri Pandits
Sonia Gandhi said that restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir 'rests with Modi government'. She was speaking about the recent attacks on Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir by millitants.
"This must be condemned in the strongest possible way," she said.
'I Have Appreciated Frankness'
Addressing the core issue about the meeting, i.e. of the organisational changes in the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi said that she appreciates frankness from her colleagues and that there was no need to speak to her 'through the media'.
Sonia Gandhi informed that a 'full-fledged' organisational election will be briefed by Gen Sec Venugopal Rao.
She expected clarity from the members of the Congress party and that the CWC must have 'free and honest discussion'.
