Kolkata: An order has been issued by the Ministry of Home Affair to withdraw Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy's security. Based on the issued order from yesterday, CRPF is in the process of withdrawing the security.
Mukul Roy, on Friday, formally rejoined the Trinamool Congress with his son.
Following the Ministry of Home Affair's orders, the CRPF is in the process of withdrawing TMC leader Mukul Roy's security. According to media reports, Mukul Roy had written to MHA requesting that his central security be withdrawn, soon after he rejoined TMC. Roy’s security was upgraded to the Z category ahead of elections, citing the possible threats from TMC. Thirty-three CRPF personnel, including armed escorts, protected him in three shifts. His son Subhrangshu Roy’s CISF protection was also withdrawn last week.
The West Bengal government provided security to both Mukul Roy and his son Subhrangshu soon after they returned to the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The former BJP national vice president on Friday formally rejoined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) along with his son Subhranshu Roy. The announcement was made during a press conference held at TMC headquarters in Kolkata. Soon after re-joining TMC, Mukul Roy said, "I feel happy that I am back to where I belong. Bengal will be back to its former glory, and I accept Mamata Banerjee as my supreme leader."
"I will never return to BJP and I will never be with them," Roy said further adding that given the condition of BJP in Bengal, no one would stay in the saffron party for long.
Shubhendu Adhikari, who left the TMC and joined the BJP, said he would apply for action against Mukul Roy if he did not resign as MLA. In the BJP, questions are now being raised about leaders coming from the TMC. Regarding these questions, senior BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta said on Monday that it would not be right to see every leader who joined the BJP in West Bengal after 2019 as a 'defector.'
