MHA Issues Notification Declaring Hafiz Saeed’s Son ‘Designated Terrorist’

The notification said Hafiz Talha Saeed, a resident of Pakistan’s Lahore, is a senior leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and is the head of the cleric wing of the LeT.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a notification declaring senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Mohammad Saeed’s son Hafiz Talha Saeed as a designated terrorist under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

“Whereas, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) has been enacted to provide for more effective prevention of certain unlawful activities of associations and individuals and for dealing with terrorist activities and for more matters connected therewith. And whereas, clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the said Act empowers the Central Government to notify the name of an individual in the Fourth Schedule to the said Act, if it believes that he is involved in terrorism,” said the notification issued earlier on Friday, ANI reported.

The notification said Hafiz Talha Saeed, a resident of Pakistan’s Lahore, is a senior leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and is the head of the cleric wing of the LeT.

The notification said Hafiz Talha Saeed has been actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, planning and executing attacks by the LeT in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan.

The notification said Hafiz Talha Saeed, born on October 25, 1975, has been actively visiting various LeT Centres across Pakistan and during his sermons propagating for jihad against India, Israel, the United States of America and the Indian interests in other western countries.

The MHA notification further said the Central government believes that Hafiz Talha Saeed is involved in terrorism and should be notified as a terrorist under the said act.
