New Delhi: Meera Sanyal, the former CEO and Chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland and member of the National Executive Committee of the Aam Aadmi Party, passed away on Friday after a brief illness. The National Executive Member of Aam Aadmi Party Preeti Sharma Menon wrote on Twitter “Meera had been fighting cancer for some time now. The brave refined soul that she was, she never let it be made public and we respected her even more thru this struggle. God takes away his own”

AAP leader and Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia confirmed her death in a tweet, saying the country has lost a sharp economic brain and a gentle soul.

On Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the demise of Meera Sanyal. He wrote “Extremely sad to hear this. No words to express.”

During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sanyal was  Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate in South Mumbai, which she lost. As per reports, she had earlier contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency.

In her 30-year-old banking career before surprising all by plunging into politics, the Kochi-born Sanyal had also served as the head of corporate finance and chief operating officer for ABN Amro for Asia.
