Hyderabad: In a fresh case of medical negligence, doctors at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here, left artery forceps in a patient's abdomen while performing a surgery for hernia.


This negligence by the doctors at the government-run super-speciality hospital came to light on Saturday when an X-ray revealed that a pair of forceps was embedded in the stomach of 33-year-old Maheshwari Chowdary, reported news agency IANS.

She underwent the surgery on November 2, 2018 post which she complained of severe abdominal pain. The shocking details of the surgery tool being accidently left in her stomach was revealed in the X-ray report.

Incensed relatives of Maheshwari staged protest outside the hospital and also lodged a complaint at the Punjagutta police station.

The patient has again been readmitted to remove the forceps.

NIMS Director K. Manohar termed the incident as "unfortunate".

"We have ordered an inquiry by a three-member team and we will take action after we get the final report," he said.
