New Delhi:  Security forces swung into action and were put on high alert after a vehicle rammed into a barricade in Parliament premises.

As per reports, the car belonged to Congress Lok Sabha MP from Manipur Dr Thokchom Meinya. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit the barricades approximately 200 meters before the entry gate.

As it collided with the barricade, sharp nails jutted out of it deflating the tyres. A Quick Response Team of the CRPF immediately took position to block the entrance route with a jawan taking aim at the entrance.

The incident that sparked a brief security scare occurred at around 12:50 pm.

Parliament security personnel are investigating the cause of the incident.

The Parliament House or Sansad Bhavan is one of the most heavily guarded complexes in the national capital.

Five terrorists stormed the parliament on December 13, 2001, killing eight police officers and a gardener before they were shot dead by security forces. A journalist wounded in the attack died months later. Afzal Guru, a native of Jammu & Kashmir, was found guilty of conspiring with and sheltering the militants who attacked the parliament in December 2001. He was hanged in 2013.
