A man was detained by the police, after cow vigilante group, Gua Raksha Dal, suspected him of carrying beef in his truck in Britannia Chowk Shakurpur in the national capital, the police said on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.
The police further said that the suspected material has been sent for further investigation for clarity by the Punjabi Bagh Police.
According to the police, further details into the matter are awaited.
According to authorities, a man was apprehended on April 7 in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on charges of posting a video that contained footage of beef and derogatory remarks towards individuals of a different religion.
"The arrested accused was identified as Sajid Khan alias Sajo Khan, a resident of Sukma," an officer was quoted by ANI in its report.
Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kedar Kashyap, reacted sharply and said that the accused under the patronage of Congress leaders posted a video of him displaying beef on a social media platform. Through this act, an attempt was made to impact the harmony of the state, he said.
“Acting on a complaint that a man had posted a video of displaying beef and abusing people of a specific religion, police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a probe," the police said.
Meanwhile, four men from a cow vigilante group were convicted on Thursday and sent to seven years in jail for lynching Rakbar Khan, aka Akbar, when he and a fellow native of a Haryana village were herding cattle through a jungle near Ramgarh in Alwar district of Rajasthan on the evening of July 20, 2018, Times of India reported.
The court convicted the four under IPC Section 304(1) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), TOI reported. The men will have to pay a penalty of Rs 10,500 each, in addition to serving time in jail. Although Khan’s friends and family welcomed the verdict, some were not happy with the sentence.
