New Delhi: Congress has attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remark on Rahul Gandhi. The grand old party said that Banerjee was speaking on the direction of PM Narendra Modi to save herself from the raids of agencies like ED and CBI. Congress alleged that Mamata Banerjee has struck a deal with PM Modi to defame the party and Rahul Gandhi.
According to ANI, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Mamata Banerjee is speaking on the direction of the PM. PM and didi have a deal to defame the image of Rahul Gandhi and Congress. She wants to save herself from ED-CBI raids that's why she is against Congress as PM will be happy with this."
The comments came after CM Mamata Banerjee reportedly said that "nobody will be able to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi, if Rahul Gandhi is the face of the Opposition", mentioned NDTV in its report citing sources.
It reported that CM Banerjee told party workers that Rahul Gandhi is PM Modi's "biggest TRP". She alleged that the BJP was not letting Parliament function as they want Rahul Gandhi to "be the leader... The BJP is keen on making Rahul Gandhi a hero," reported NDTV citing sources.
According to the report, while addressing party workers in Murshidabad virtually from Kolkata, she said, "It is the Congress that bows before the BJP. Congress, CPM and BJP are instigating minorities against the Trinamool."
The comment comes at a time when a crack was fairly visible in the opposition unity during the ongoing Parliament session when the parties, including TMC, held protests separately against the Centre on the same issue.
