West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee To Address The State On The Occasion Of Shaheed Diwas

In memory of 13 individuals who were shot by West Bengal Police in Kolkata on July 21, 1993, at a rally organised by the West Bengal Youth Congress posts tweets.

Kolkata: West Bengal CM and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee has announced that she will address the state on July 21 at 2 p.m. on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day or Shaheed Diwas. She will address the people virtually, maintaining the restrictions to curb the pandemic.

She took to Twitter to announce, “With the blessings of the people of Bengal who have willed us to a landslide victory and a historic third term in government, I will be addressing my brothers and sisters on July 21st #ShahidDibas at 2PM, virtually, owing to the restrictions to curb the pandemic.”

She further honoured the sacrifice of the 13 people shot by the WB Police back in 1993, “#ShahidDibas on every 21st July is a solemn occasion for us to remember our 13 bravehearts who were brutally killed in a politically orchestrated violence back in 1993. We take this occasion every year to pay our respects for their heroic sacrifice.”

It is in memory of 13 individuals who were shot by West Bengal Police in Kolkata on July 21, 1993, at a rally organised by the West Bengal Youth Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, who demanded that the Voter's Identity Card be made the sole need for voting.
