New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a massive grassroot outreach campaign called ‘Didi Ke Bolo’, apparently with an eye on the crucial Assembly polls in 2021. With the programme under which a helpline number and a website have been launched party helpline number and a website to reach out to the masses and address their grievances, the CM would be just a call away from every citizen, the party claimed.

The programme aims to reach at least 80% of the households in the state (which is 1.6 crore households) to inform and engage them with party’s initiatives over the next 20 months.

The objective of the initiative is to improve citizen participation and engagement by providing a platform to every citizen to share their suggestions and problems for expedited action, a release about it said.

"Over the next 100 days, more than 1,000 party leaders and workers will reach out to 10,000 villages in the state, spend days there with local people and try and address their grievances," Banerjee told reporters here after a meeting with Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs and senior functionaries.

The initiative is the first major step taken by the party after getting the services of political strategist Prashant Kishor who is credited with the winning campaign for BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP had made massive inroads in Manata Banerjee’s state in the Lok Sabha elections by winning 18 seats this time, 16 more than what it won in 2014 parliamentary polls.  TMC won 22 out of the 42 parliamentary seats, registering a loss of 12 seats as compared to the previous national polls.
