Kolkata (West Bengal): Buoyed by her party's stupendous performance in assembly by-polls in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief and CM Mamata Banerjee pilloried the BJP on Thursday saying it is getting paid back for its "arrogance" and for "insulting" the people of the state. She dedicated the party's victory in the Kaliaganj assembly seat by-poll to the people of West Bengal. “This is a victory of people. This is a victory for development. Politics of arrogance will not work. People have rejected the BJP”.

“This is the first time we are winning in Kharagpur and Kalaganj. Minorities, Adivasis, Rajbanshi - everyone has voted for us. Courtesy is the culture of Bengal,” she added.

She charged the Opposition parties in the state of colluding with the BJP and not helping their own cause.

The CPI(M) and the Congress, instead of trying to strengthen themselves, are helping the BJP in West Bengal, Banerjee said.

Tapan Deb Sinha of the TMC won the Kaliaganj seat by defeating his nearest rival Kamal Chandra Sarkar of the BJP by 2,304 votes, EC officials said.

Reports say the TMC is also leading quit comfortably in two other assembly segments, Kharagpur Sadar and Karimpur, by over 15,000 and 28,000 votes respectively.
