MUMBAI: Body of the 29-year-old Major Kaustubh Rane, who was among the four Indian Army soldier martyred in an encounter on the Line of  Gurez sector of Bandipora district, around 125 kms from Srinagar, reached his Mira Road residence on Thursday.


His last rites will be performed tomorrow will full military honours in Bhayander town in neighbouring Thane district where his family lives.

Major Rane was a resident of Hiral Sagar society. The martyred major is survived by parents, wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old child.

On Tuesday, his father, who retired from Tata Power, Major’s wife Kanika and their child had left for Vaibhavwadi in Maharashtra, where the family had constructed a new house. He got a call, not from his only son as was the routine, but from an Army official informing him of Kaustubh’s death.

The chief minister said in a tweet “We Salute from Thane for his supreme sacrifice for Bharat Mata ! He lost his life while foiling infiltration bid in Gurez in Jammu & Kashmir. We stand firm with his family in this hour of grief.”
