The Parliamentary committee has called BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Oct 26 for oral evidence in his 'cash-for-query' complaint against TMC's Mahua Moitra.
The committee will also hear advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai on Oct 26 on BJP MP Dubey's complaint against Mahua Moitra
"Oral evidence of Dr. Nishikant Dubey, MP, in respect of complaint dated 15 October, 2023 given by him against Smt. Mahua Moitra, MP for alleged direct involvement in cash for query in Parliament," the subject of the Lok Sabha secretariat communication to him read.
The letter sent by a secretariat official said, "I am directed to state that the Committee on Ethics has decided to hear you in the above matter, in person, on Thursday, 26 October, 2023..."
Dubey had accused Moitra of taking "bribes" from a businessman to ask questions in Parliament and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to constitute an "inquiry committee" to probe the matter. Moitra responded by saying she "welcomes any move against her after the Lok Sabha Speaker is finished dealing with pending charges against him (Dubey)".
On Tuesday, Moitra also approached the Delhi High Court seeking to restrain Dubey, Dehadrai and several social media platforms and media houses from posting, circulating or publishing any alleged fake and defamatory content against her.
Moitra sought permanent injunction and damages against Dubey, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, social media platform X, search engine Google, YouTube and 15 media houses and to restrain them from making, publishing, circulating per se defamatory, ex facie false and malicious statements against her, PTI reported.
In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dubey accused Moitra of asking questions in exchange for payment and requested a probe into the matter and Moitra's immediate suspension. Dubey stated that he received a letter from Jai Anant Dehadrai, a lawyer, in which he revealed indisputable proof of bribes exchanged between Moitra and Darshan Hiranandani, a well-known business tycoon, to ask questions in Parliament in exchange for 'cash' and 'gifts'.
