New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders paid their respect on the 151 st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat today. They also paid homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 116th birth anniversary at Vijay Ghat.


Modi also tweeted about the nation's great leaders who were at the forefront of the freedom struggle and said that there is still a lot to learn from the life and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi.

We bow to beloved Bapu on #GandhiJayanti. There is much to learn from his life and noble thoughts. May Bapu’s ideals keep guiding us in creating a prosperous and compassionate India. He also shared a two-minute video about the principles of Gandhi. The voiceover in the video says "Gandhiji never tried to create his influence through his life, however, his life became an inspiration in itself."


He also wrote about Shastri and expressed his gratitude for his contributions to building the nation.


President Ram Nath Kovind also paid homage to the great leaders on the microblogging site. He said Gandhi's life and selfless service can be an inspiration during tough times such as the pandemic.


Home Minister Amit Shah also wrote about Bapu and said that he showed the way to peace, non-violence, and compassion.


Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader  Ghulam Nabi Azad also paid their respect today.
