Two people were killed and five others left injured in a blast in a factory in Maharashtra's Thane on Saturday. The blast took place during the filling of a nitrogen gas container, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) told news agency PTI. The nitrogen gas tanker was parked at a manufacturing unit at Shahad in Ulhasnagar town, around 11 AM. After receiving information about the blast, local firemen and fire services of the company were pressed into action to contain the blaze that broke out following the blast.


The Ulhasnagar tehsildar Akshay Dhakne told PTI that rescue and relief operations were carried out at the site of the plant. 


The injured workmen were rushed to a hospital, Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of the TMC told the news agency. Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) Chief Fire Officer said that the explosion on company premises, he added that the cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. The local police have also joined in probing the incident. 


The body of the deceased worker identified as Shailendra Yadav has been sent for post-mortem.
