Maharashtra on Monday recorded a dip in fresh Covid cases, with 248 new patients in the previous 24 hours. The total number of active patients, however, went up to 3,532 from 3,488. While 203 patients were discharged, the state recorded one death in the same period. Maharashtra had reported 562 new cases on Sunday.


The national capital, Delhi, meanwhile reported 293 fresh Covid cases and two deaths. In Noida, nine new people tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. This took the number of active cases in the district to 133. Eight of the 133 patients are currently admitted to hospitals.



The total number of infections now stands at 81,45,590, which includes 1,48,445 fatalities, an official from the state health department said. While the Mumbai district reported 1,079 infections, Pune and Thane logged 761 and 630 cases, respectively, the health department stated in a report.


According to the state health department, Mumbai circle reported the highest number of new cases at 179, followed by 37 in Pune, 12 in Nashik, seven in Akola, five in Nagpur, three each in Latur and Kolhapur and two in Aurangabad. The death was reported from Aurangabad.



The country recorded a single-day jump of 3,641 fresh Covid-19 cases as the active caseload rose to 20,219, according to Union Health Ministry data updated at 8 am on Monday.


MASK MANDATE IN HARYANA


Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Monday announced that wearing masks will be mandatory for all healthcare workers and in areas where a gathering of over 100 people is expected, due to a rise in Covid cases in certain parts of the state. The Chandigarh administration has also issued an advisory urging residents to follow Covid-related guidelines, such as wearing masks in crowded areas and closed settings.


Vij said that Covid tests will be mandatory for patients showing symptoms of cough and cold. Patients who tested positive for Covid will undergo genome sequencing. The Haryana government has also asked all health facilities to check the travel history of suspected cases. As of now, there are 724 active cases in Haryana, with no patients hospitalized.


Vij has urged people to follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks to curb the spread of the virus. The state has 53 testing labs, 26 of which are government-run.
