Covid cases in Maharashtra has been on the rise as the state recorded 669 Covid 19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state's tally to 81,44,780. While the death toll stood unchanged at 1,48,441, reported news agency PTI, citing a health official.
The addition to the tally was a rise from 425 recorded on Friday, though lower than Thursday's 694, he pointed out.
The Mumbai metropolitan region recorded 347 Covid cases including 189 in the metropolis alone. Neighboring city Pune also reported 60 said the official according to PTI.
However, there was no fatality recorded due to the cases.
The recovery rate increased by 435 in the last 24 hours to touch 79,93,015, leaving the state with an active tally of 3,324 cases, the official further said.
The fatality rate in Maharashtra is 1.82 per cent, while 8,66,36,507 coronavirus tests have been carried out so far, including 9,774 in the last 24 hours, according to the state health department data.
Covid Cases In Delhi
Meanwhile, the national capital Delhi logged 416 fresh cases of Covid 19 in the last 24 hours, highest in over seven months. The positivity rate stood at 14.37 percent, according to the health bulletin released by the
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the XBB.1.16 is the predominant Covid variant at present and accounts for around 48 percent of all infections. The CM stated that the variant spreads rapidly but is not severe.
The CM said that conducting genome sequencing of all Covid-positive cases to timely identify new variants is on the agenda of government. and urged people to not worry for now.
The variant XBB 1.16 was first found in January, when two samples tested positive for it. In February, 140 samples of XBB 1.16 were found while in March the number was 207, as per INSACOG data.
The XBB.1.16 is a recombinant lineage of the virus and is a descendent of the XBB lineage of Covid-19.
