Maharashtra: Oppn Leaders Call Out Shinde Govt After Assembly Prorogued As Budget Session Ends

As the Maharashtra legislative assembly adjourned at the end of the Budget session, opposition leaders chastised the ruling parties, the BJP and the Shiv Sena (Eknath faction).

The impact of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's disqualification was visible inside the Maharashtra assembly on Saturday. The leader of the opposition, Ajit Pawar, said that there were many agitations on the steps of Vidhan Bhavan during the session, but what kind of agitation was it to hit Rahul Gandhi's pictures with shoes. "Every party has its own national and respectable leaders, no one will tolerate their insult," he said, ANI reported. 

State Congress president Nana Patole also slammed the state government, saying, "There is not a single woman minister in his cabinet. This government's Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar keeps on giving any statement. These farmers die and the minister says that the issue of farmers' suicide is not new. We strongly oppose this statement".

"This government is anti-farmer government. This is only a government for the rich. Over 1000 crore rupees were spent for G20 in Nagpur, where did this money come from? This government looted a lot in the last 6 months," news agency ANI quoted him as saying. 

Aditya Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Faction), joined the verbal strike against the ruling parties, the BJP and the Shiv Sena (Eknath Faction), saying: "Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde should apologize to the people of Maharashtra because he has taken Maharashtra a long way back. This time in the House, the government did not respond properly on many issues".

"The issues related to the farmers were not resolved by the government. Absence of ministers in the House was a major issue due to which the proceedings of the House had to be stopped several times," he was quoted as saying by ANI. 

The state legislative assembly adjourned at the end of the Budget session. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar read out Governor Ramesh Bais' prorogation order. The state legislature's monsoon session will begin on July 17 in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra legislature's budget session began on February 27 with the governor addressing the joint sitting of both Houses. On March 9, the state budget was presented. During the month-long session, there were 18 working days.
