New Delhi: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra is involved in a multicrore food scam related to coronavirus in the state. According to Somaiya who is the vice president of BJP's Maharashtra unit, there are variations in the way contractors are paid for providing the same services across the state.

According to a series of tweets posted by Somaiya, there are irregularities in the payment of contractors supplying food in the corona quarantine centres in different areas of the state. He has called this 'Corona ka Commission' and has given details of different pricing prevalent in the states.

In a tweet where he reveals the scam in payment he wrote

‘Contractor supplies Food Packets for Nasta Lunch Dinner to Quarantine Center Patients. Contracts awarded @ ₹172/day at Eastern Suburbs ₹ 372/day Dadar ₹350 Andheri ₹415 Thane for same meals

He has also posted a video explaining the scam and how it is impacting ordinary citizens in the state.


Maharashtra continues to lead in the number of coronavirus cases in the country. At present, there are 39297 cases in the state. According to reports, the State has also announced that there will be only red and non-red zones and that new guidelines will be implemented from May 22. India also experienced a sudden spurt in the coronavirus cases and according to reports the tally has reached 1,12,359.
