New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning till March 16 for six districts of Maharashtra, inlcuding Mumbai. The IMD said that “severe heatwave conditions in some parts” of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Sindhudurg is predicted for two days from March 14 to March 16.
The IMD further predicted heat wave to severe heat wave over some regions of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat, and Konkan in Maharashtra, and heatwave conditions over Coastal Karnataka, Southwest regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
"Yellow alerts have been issued for a heat wave in Gujarat region for next 2 days. Temperature might rise around 1-2° C & a severe heat wave is expected in Saurashtra & Gujarat regions. Temperature in Ahmedabad is expected around 40-41° C," said Manorama Mohanty, Director, MET Ahmedabad, reported ANI.
Heatwave warning came after an increase in temperature was recorded in several pockets of Mumbai on Sunday. The IMD Santacruz weather station had recorded a day temperature 38.6 degree celsius which was 5.7 degree celsius above normal, reported the Times of India.
Six degrees celsius above normal, Colaba had recorded a day temperature of 37.6 degree celsius while the night temperature was recorded at 23.5 degree Celsius, 9 degrees above normal, stated the above mentioned TOI report.

"These winds are drier so it leads to low humidity levels. With anticyclonic circulation along with clear skies, this situation will not let the temperatures come down and it will either remain the same or rise," quoted TOI as a IMD official spoke.
