Maharashtra Govt Allows Reopening Of Schools For Classes 8-12 In Urban Areas, Classes 5-8 In Rural Areas

Maharashtra Schools Reopen: Permission has been given to reopen all schools from August for class 5th to 8th in rural areas of the state.

New Delhi: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced some more relief amid declining corona cases. Permission has been given to reopen all schools for class 5th to 8th in rural areas of the state. However, opening of classes 8th to 12th has just been allowed in urban areas. A final decision will be taken by the district and local authorities after reviewing the situation.

Class XI Admission Exam Canceled

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday canceled the Maharashtra government's order to conduct the Common Entrance Examination (CET) for admission to Class XI. Cet was scheduled to be held on August 21 for students who passed Class X for admission to Class XI.

A bench of Justices R D Dhanuka and R I Chagla canceled the notification issued by the state government on May 28. It is written in notification that CET will be organized for all board-related students who have passed 10th on the basis of which they will be able to choose a college of their choice to enroll in Class XI.

''The state government does not have the power to issue such notification and this court can interfere in such an injustice case,'' the bench said. The court directed the state government to start admitting students in class XI on the basis of marks and internal evaluation obtained in Class X and complete the entire admission process within six weeks.

The high court passed the order on a petition filed by Ananya Patki, a student of IES Orion School affiliated to the ICSE Board and intervention petitions of four IGCSE students.
