Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was admitted to HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday after he tested positive for Covid-19. He had taken part in an International Yoga Day event Tuesday at his official residence, Raj Bhavan, where he performed several asanas. Koshyari, who is 80 years old, is often spotted at public events donning a face mask.
The governor took to Twitter to share his health update and said his symptoms are mild.
“I have been tested positive for COVID -19. There are only mild symptoms. However I have been admitted to a Hospital as a precautionary measure,” his post read.
At the Yoga event Tuesday, the governor was joined by Raj Bhavan officers and staff, Mumbai's diplomatic community, and international students.
Following the political crisis that erupted in Maharashtra on Tuesday, rebel Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde was scheduled to meet Koshyari, with the claim that he has the support of 40 legislators, news agency ANI reported.
As many as 33 Shiv Sena and seven independent MLAs, led by cabinet minister Eknath Shinde, reached Guwahati in BJP-ruled Assam on Wednesday.
The Shiv Sena rebellion has led to speculation that Shinde might join the BJP along with these MLAs and overthrow the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. Even as talks between the political parties are on, the governor's presence in the state is crucial at this time.
The number of Covid cases has recently increased across the nation, with Maharashtra reporting 3,659 fresh cases on Tuesday. With this, the number of infected in the state has increased to 7,941,762
