New Delhi: A fire broke out in the pantry car of the Gandhidham-Puri Express train on Saturday when it was near the Nandurbar railway station in Maharashtra.
No casualty was reported in the incident, news agency PTI reported a police official as informing.
According to the police official, the blaze erupted around 10.45 am as the train (12993) was heading for Puri (Odisha).
“Due to the fire, smoke engulfed the pantry car. Passengers onboard panicked and a few of them even jumped out of the train when it was moving slowly. The train was soon brought to a halt,” the official said, as quoted by PTI.
He further informed that the local police, fire brigade, and disaster management teams were alerted and the firefighting operation was launched immediately.
Fire Extinguished, No Injuries Reported
The fire in the pantry car was extinguished. The Overhead Equipment supply (both up and down lines) was restored at 12.10 pm, Western Railway stated, as reported by news agency ANI.
It was informed that the pantry car was separated as a part of the firefighting operation. The train comprises a total of 22 coaches and the pantry car was the 13th coach.
According to Western Railway, the medical team and other paramedical staff immediately rushed to the site and there were no injuries caused.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Nandurbar district, where the incident occurred, is located in the northwest corner of Maharashtra, around 450 kms away from Mumbai.
