The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad detained a Jharkhand Maoist commander on Sunday from the Palghar area, according to an ATS officer. He was holding a reward of 15 lakh rupees on his head, news agency PTI reported.

In Jharkhand, Karu Hulas Yadav, 45, was a regional committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).

The ATS detained him during a raid at a chawl (tenement) in the Nalasopara neighbourhood of Palghar district adjoining Mumbai, in an early morning operation, the official said.

Yadav, who lives in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, claimed he came to Maharashtra for medical treatment.

The Jharkhand Police have been informed of the operation, and additional investigation is underway, he added.

Two Maoists Slained In Gun Battle With Security Forces In Jharkhand

Earlier this month, two feared Maoists were slain in a battle with security forces in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district's Baruda jungle, the police said. They were considered to be close aides of the outfit's central committee member Anal Da.

According to them, several additional members of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) were injured in the operation.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined team comprising the CRPF's CoBRA, Jharkhand Jaguar, and the state police conducted operations in the Seraikela-Kharsawan, Chaibasa, and Khunti districts, destroying Maoist camps and engaging in a gunfight with them.

"We had information that Maoist Central Committee Member Anal Da, who is carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head, has come to a camp at the tri-junction with 30-35 members to plan and execute some major attack on security forces," the police said.
