The first patient to have been infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has tested negative in less than a week of him acquiring the disease. A 33-year-old man from Kalyan-Dombivli had tested positive for the new variant of Coronavirus.
The news was confirmed by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi to ANI. This is a positive news that the Omicron patient recovered in a quick time.
"The first case of Omicron variant of coronavirus in Maharashtra, a 33-year-old mechanical engineer, has tested negative for COVID-19. He has been discharged from the hospital &advised to remain in home quarantine for 7 days," Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi told ANI.
According to the State Health Department, the 33-year-old man from Kalyan Dombivli municipal area near Mumbai had arrived at the Delhi airport from South Africa via Dubai before flying to Mumbai.
The man had arrived in Delhi on November 24 via Cape Town and had given his samples for COVID-19 testing at the Delhi airport. He had then taken a flight to Mumbai, official sources close to news agency PTI said in Delhi.
However, with the Omicron variant now present in 57 countries, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned at a press briefing that it can spread more rapidly than previous variants, Xinhua news agency reported.
