Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the fire that broke out at Ujjain's iconic Mahakal Temple earlier on Monday. Around 14 people were injured after a fire broke out in the 'garbhagriha' or the sanctum sanctorum of the temple during the Bhasma Aarti ceremony on the occasion of Holi. Fourteen priests, along with their assistants sustained injuries in the blaze. 


"The accident that happened in Mahakal temple of Ujjain is very painful. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the devotees injured in this accident," Modi said in a post on X. 


"Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in every possible help to the victims," he added. 






Union Home Minister Amit Shah also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. 


"Spoke with Chief Minister Shri @DrMohanYadav51 and got information regarding the fire incident in Shri Mahakal Temple of Ujjain. The local administration is providing assistance and treatment to the injured. I pray to Baba Mahakal for the speedy recovery of the injured," Shah said in his post on X. 


Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that a big tragedy was averted but served as an alarm to ensure that such incidents don't happen in the future.

" ...By God's grace, a big tragedy did not occur. In a way, it is an alarming call, we will try to ensure such incidents don't happen in the future. I have met the injured in both Ujjain and Indore," said the CM. 


"I have ordered a probe. The injured will be treated properly and we have told the administration to help them all by giving at least Rs 1 lakh each. We will take necessary steps to ensure such incidents don't happen again," he added.
