Pune: In a tragic turn of events, a doctor couple committed suicide over an argument between the two. The news comes a day after the nation celebrated National Doctors' Day. 


28-year-old, Dr. Nikhil Shendkar ended his life a day after his wife, Dr. Ankita Shendkar, 25 committed suicide.

According to a PTI report, the couple ran a clinic together in the Wanwadi area in Pune City. The police said that Dr. Ankita Shendkar committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her home in Wanwadi on Wednesday evening, while her husband Dr. Nikhil Shendkar was found hanging in the bathroom on Thursday morning.


"For the last three months, Nikhil was practicing in Karsurdi village near Yavat in Pune district, while Ankita worked at their Wanwadi-based clinic. On Wednesday, Nikhil received a call from one of his patients, suffering from a mental illness. However, since he was in Kasurdi, Nikhil asked his wife to attend to the patient, but she refused," a police official was quoted as saying by PTI.


The couple got into an argument over the phone and when Nikhil reached home, he found Ankita hanging from the ceiling in a room on the third floor of their house in Wanwadi. When he failed to revive Ankita, Nikhil alerted the police and she was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead, the official said, adding that a case of accidental death was registered.


The next day, on July 1st,  Nikhil was also found hanging in the bathroom ceiling. He had left a brief note stating that no one should be held responsible for his death, the police officials told PTI.
