The controversy surrounding former film actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan's comments on the stampede at the Prayagraj Kumbh is now intensifying. Spiritual guru Acharya Pramod Krishnam has sparked a fresh controversy with a personal remark against the Samajwadi Party MP.

Acharya Pramod Krishnam said, "Until now, only Amitabh Bachchan was unhappy with Jaya Bachchan. Now, she is trying to make the entire Sanatan community unhappy."

Earlier in the day the All India Akhara Parishad, the largest umbrella organisation of saints and seers, expressed displeasure over Jaya Bachchan's remarks. Akhara Parishad president Ravindra Puri has also lashed out at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Puri stated that Jaya Bachchan and other opposition leaders had made statements against the entire Sanatan faith and should provide proof of what they were saying.

What Did Jaya Bachchan Say About Maha Kumbh?

Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said the water at Maha Kumbh was contaminated: "Where is the water most contaminated right now? It's in Kumbh. Bodies [of those who died in the stampede] were dumped in the river, because of which the water has been contaminated... The real issues are not being addressed. The common people visiting Kumbh are not receiving any special treatment, there is no arrangement for them. They are lying that crores of people have visited the place, how can such a large number of people gather in that place at any given point?..."
