The epicentre of the earthquake was determined 57 km from Khampat, Myanmar (Burma), which hit the region at 7.41 a.m., the US Geological Survey said.
Police and fire officials said there were no reports of any major damage so far, Xinhua news agency reported.
"A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar-India border region at 7:11 AM this morning," news agency ANI reported quoting India Meteorological Department (IMD)
There were no reports of casualties or damage to property yet.
Yesterday, an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale hit Delhi and its surrounding areas. The earthquake was measured at a depth of 16 kms.
The epicenter was Chhajiawas in Haryana, about 100 kms from the capital.
