Two people were killed and 20 were injured after a fuel tanker overturned and caught on fir in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 6 am near Anjangaon village under Bistan police station limits, according to ANI. The tanker was headed towards Khargone from Indore. 


As per the ANI report, the tanker of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) lost control at a turning point near Anjangaon and overturned. The villagers gathered to collect the fuel when the tanker burst into flames, the Khargone SDM told ANI. 


Khargone SDM Om Narayan Singh was quoted by ANI, "As the fuel tanker overturned near the village, the nearby villagers gathered at the spot to collect the fuel from it. During this the tanker burst."


Khargone MLA Ravi Joshi told ANI that around 15 seriously injured persons were referred to a hospital in Indore while around 10 injured were undergoing treatment at Khargone district hospital. He demanded the state government to provide relief funds to the injured and to the family of the deceased.

BPCL officials have been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident, PTI reported.


According to a PTI report, Jagdish, who was among those injured in the incident, said a blast took place suddenly in the tanker when the villagers reached the spot after the vehicle overturned. The tanker driver and conductor fled from the spot, he said.


Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote on Twitter, "Sad news received about a tanker going from Indore to Khargone overturned near Anjangaon under Bistan police station in which many persons were injured and died. I pray to God for peace to the departed soul and speedy recovery of the injured".






"Appropriate arrangements have been made by the administration for the treatment of injured in the accident. District Collector and SP and other senior officers are present on the spot. I am constantly in touch with the divisional commissioner and collector," CM further wrote on twitter.
