Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said the government will impose a ban on any “objectionable web series” in the state. Chouhan said this while speaking at an event organised by religious preacher Devkinandan Thakur at Dussehra Maidan in Bhopal. Chouhan said this after the preacher spoke about the requirement to ban all objectionable web series because such types of content are alienating the young generation from their culture. Speaking at the function, Chouhan said Bhopal is the land of religious and spiritual significance.
The Chief Minister said, “The state government will take necessary steps in this direction,” as quoted by news agency PTI. Religious preacher Devkinandan Thakur has been a very vocal critic of shows and web series on OTT platforms as he thinks that the content available there affect the social relations of people in an adverse way.
Earlier, in March this year, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said vulgarity and abusive language were not at all acceptable on the pretext of creativity.
Anurag Thakur said the government was taking complaints about vulgarity and abusive language in the content available on OTT platforms very seriously. He added the authorities won't hesitate in taking tough actions against the trend.
He said, “OTT players also have the responsibility of ensuring that their platform does not propagate vulgarity and abuse camouflaged as ‘creative expression’.”
