New Delhi:  Expressing her anger over the rape and murder of the veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, Rajya Sabha lawmaker Jaya Bachchan on Monday said that the accused should be brought in public and lynched.  The Parliament today is debating the safety of women and children after the shocking incident in the Telangana capital led to huge protests and triggered massive outrage.

“People now want the government to give a proper and definite answer. I know it’s a little harsh but these types of people [the accused in rape case] need to be brought out in public and lynched," Bachchan said in the Upper House.

A young veterinarian was brutally gang-raped and killed by four persons before they set her body ablaze in Telangana's Shamshabad last week. The accused have been arrested by the Cyberabad police.

UKN Reddy, Congress MP from Nalgonda, Telangana said in the Lok Sabha demanded the accused must be awarded death penalty soon. "A lady doctor was abducted, gang-raped, murdered & burnt in a high security area. One of the causes of the incident is indiscriminate sale of liquor. We request a fast track court be set up and accused hanged till death".

Condemning the horrific incident, Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel said not just the state government but also the Centre has failed in dealing with such cases effectively.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also called for stringent punishment for the accused and said that the government was open to toughening anti-rape laws."This act has brought shame to the entire country. It has hurt everyone. The accused must be given the most stringent punishment for their crime.  If there's consensus on a more stringent law, the government is ready to bring it into force".
