A traffic cop was pulled for approximately a km on top of a car's bonnet after the driver disobeyed the official's stop signal. According to police, the automobile had two occupants, both of whom have been recognised. Both have a criminal history, they said. A video of the alleged event has gone viral on social media. The traffic cop is seen perched perilously on the car's hood in the footage, news agency PTI reported.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Mata Rani chowk, near the municipal corporation headquarters crossroads in the city, after on-duty Traffic Head Constable Hardeep Singh signalled the automobile to stop.

Instead of stopping, the police officer was hit by the shiny silver-colored automobile, landing on its bonnet.

According to police, the driver then proceeded for approximately a km towards the Jalandhar bypass, with Singh on the bonnet.

According to them, the officer went off the hood as the car slowed down due to heavy traffic. The occupants of the automobile, however, managed to flee with the vehicle.

Ramandeep Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ludhiana, said the passengers of the automobile had been identified and would be detained shortly.

He went on to say that both of them have a criminal past.

He hypothesised that something unlawful was being transferred in the automobile and claimed that operations are underway to apprehend the couple.

"A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered," the ACP was quoted by PTI in its report.
