As per the district public relations office, Kohli passed away earlier today at SPS Hospital, Ludhiana.
"Sad News ACP Anil Kohli passed away. Died of #COVID-19. Was admitted in SPS Hospital Ludhiana," Ludhiana district public relations office tweeted.
The officials of the District Public Relations Office confirmed the news of his death.
The ACP (Ludhiana North) tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago and has remained on a ventilator ever since.
Although the officer had no travel history, he is supposed to have procured the infection while on duty at a sabzi mandi.
The first sample of Kohli tested negative but the next test came out to be positive.

Anil Kohli’s wife, driver, who is a constable from Ferozepur, and SHO of Jodhewal police station, which comes under the ACP’s jurisdiction have also been tested positive for the virus.
In Punjab for the first time, the state government has decided to support the medical team of SPS Apollo Hospital in Ludhiana to conduct plasma therapy on Ludhiana’s Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Kohli, 52, who has tested positive for coronavirus a few days ago.
On Friday, the Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the hospital to conduct plasma therapy on the police officer.
Coronavirus cases in Punjab have risen to 202 while the death toll has gone up to 14.
