Top BJP leaders hold meeting over Tiwari’s death:
On Saturday night BJP president Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, state president Mahendra Pandey held a meeting in Delhi to discuss the law and order situation in Uttar Prdaesh. The Killing of Vivek Twari was discussed in the meeting.
Compensation:
The Uttar Pradesh government announced Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased man as ex-gratia compensation. Government also announced that Tiwari’s wife will be given a job in the municipal corporation.
The police have set up a special investigation team (SIT). In Gorakhpur, Adityanath said the guilty will not be spared and if the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) needed will be asked to probe.
Accused sent to jail:
Two constables were arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by Apple executive Vivek Tiwari's colleague Sana Khan, who was travelling with him.
Accused constable Prashant Chaudhary who opened fire however has claimed innocence. He had said he opened fire in self-defence when Tiwari tried to run him over, according to police.
The incident:
The incident took place near Gomti Nagar extension at around 1.30 a.m. when Tiwari was heading home after the launch of iPhone X plus along with his colleague.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani said the two policemen on patrol duty had asked Tiwari to stop the SUV, which had hit their motorcycle and injured them.
Constable Prashant Chaudhary noticed "suspicious activity" and opened fire when the man allegedly tried to speed away. A bullet pierced the windscreen as the car rammed into a pillar, police said.
Sana Khan told reporters that the constables came from the front on their motorcycle, and tried to force Tiwari to stop.
"Sir did not stop the car and when we tried to move ahead, it hit the motorcycle, she said.
But the constables had got down by then, she added, saying one of them then opened fire.
