New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has tested positive for Coronavirus infection. He has been admitted to AIIMS Covid Centre for observation.


All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, Delhi has released a medical bulletin on Om Birla's health condition.



It has been revealed that the Lok Sabha Speaker had tested positive for Covid-19 on March 19. He was admitted to AIIMS Covid Centre a day later that is on March 20.



Om Birla had last presided over the Lok Sabha session held on March 17. Previously, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's son Aditya Thackeray was revealed to have tested Coronavirus positive on Saturday.


Meanwhile, in another alarming spike, India recorded 43,846 new Covid infections in 24 hours - making it the highest single-day rise recorded so far this year. This has also taken the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,15,99,130.


The country has been registering an increase in Coronavirus cases for 11 days in a row. The total active caseload has increased to 3,09,087.


The death toll has also increased to 1,59,755 with 197 daily new fatalities, the highest in 97 days. Besides this, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has surged to 1,11,30,288.
