New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that the statements made by BJP leaders indicate their intention to undermine democracy by altering the Constitution and eliminating reservations for Dalits, backward classes, and tribals. Rahul further claimed that as long as the Congress is there, no power in the world can take away reservation from the deprived people.

Rahul Gandhi took to social media and posted in Hindi on X, saying "It is now clear from the statements of BJP leaders and those close to Narendra Modi that their objective is -- destroying the democracy of the country by changing the Constitution. To snatch away the reservation of Dalits, backward classes and tribals and end their participation in running the country".

"The Congress is standing like a rock in the way of the BJP to protect the Constitution and reservation. As long as the Congress is there, no power in the world can take away their reservation from the deprived people", he remarked.

The Congress has slammed Prime Minister Modi's comments about "snatching quotas," labeling them as false propaganda. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh countered by alleging that it is the BJP that has historically opposed reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), reported PTI.

Ramesh emphasised the reality that reservation in education and employment has been upheld since 1950, primarily under Congress prime ministers and governments.
