New Delhi: A day after Congress played its ‘trump card’ by launching Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party got another jolt as senior BJP leader Babulal Gaur, who is a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, claimed he has been offered to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Bhopal seat on Congress’ ticket and that he was thinking on the offer.

Gaur’s claims come at a time when the BJP is still reeling with its debacle in the state.

Gaur claimed that Congress’ senior leader Digvijay Singh offered him to contest from Bhopal. He also said that he “will think about” the offer.

“He (Singh) visited me and offered me to contest polls from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat on Congress ticket. I told him I will think about it,” Gaur was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

This comes days after reports of BJP stating that it would field senior party leaders based on their winning chances, in Madhya Pradesh.

Gaur, who has been the former premier of the state, is 88 years old and has cleared that he was not ready to take retirement from politics yet. The BJP veteran has been elected in 10 Assembly elections from the seat of Govindpura in Bhopal.

In the 2018 assembly polls, Madhya Pradesh faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of Congress, in the state where the party was in power for three straight terms. The Congress won 114 seats, while the BJP could win only 109 seats in the elections. Total seats in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, is 230.
