New Delhi: The 21-day nationwide lockdown seems to have played a great role in controlling the spread of coronavirus within the country. Presently, at least 25 districts across 15 states, which had previously reported Corona positive cases have not witnessed any new cases in the past two weeks.

Union Health Ministry's Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal told the media: "The containment measures taken by the government have started showing results on the field. At least 25 districts in 15 states have not reported any new case for the last 14 days."

The 25 districts with no new cases despite having Covid-19 positive cases earlier are:

Gondia in Maharashtra
Rajnandgaon, Durg and Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh
Davangiri, Kodagu, Tumkuru and Udupi in Karnataka
South Goa in Goa
Wayanad and Kottayam in Kerala
West Imphal in Manipur
Rajouri in J&K
Aizawl West in Mizoram
Mahe in Puducherry
SBS Nagar in Punjab
Patna, Nalanda and Munger in Bihar
Pratapgarh in Rajasthan
Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa in Haryana
Pauri Garhwal in Uttrakhand
Bhadradri Kothagudem in Telangana.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been underlining the importance of lockdown. Recently, it shared its predictions where it said that if India had not implemented either containment or nationwide lockdown - the country would have seen a case growth by 41% and there would have been 8.2 lakh positive cases by April 15. Only Containment measures without a lockdown would have lead to 1.2 lakh cases by April 15. Since the government acted sooner - India had 7,447 cases on Apr 11.

As per the health ministry data, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in India, stood at 9,352, including 72 foreign nationals, with 324 deaths so far.
