Mumbai: The metropolis received heavy rainfall today following the onset of the southwest monsoon, leading to a slight delay in the running of suburban trains. A woman riding a scooter reportedly died after falling into an open drain in neighbouring Thane district. The pillion rider suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

  • Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd says that there are no flight diversions or cancellations. The flights have delayed by 15-20 minutes.

  • Chief public relations officer of Central Railway says "We will continue to maintain services even if overall rainfall for the day reaches 200mm by tonight".

  • Water logging was reported from several parts of city and disrupted local trains and flights.




  • The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today declared the onset of the monsoon over Mumbai, the adjoining Thane-Konkan areas, Ahmednagar, Parbhani and other parts of Maharashtra.
    "Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in the suburbs till 8.30 am today," IMD Deputy Director K S Hosalikar said.



  • The heavy monsoon shower also resulted in water-logging in parts of Mumbai.





  • Trains on the suburban section of the Central Railway (CR) were running late by 10-12 minutes due to the showers, an official said, adding that there were no cancellations.
