New Delhi: A day ahead of the chargesheet that is to be filed against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of sexual harassment on women wrestlers, the BJP MP refused to comment on the matter and said he wants to wait for the verdict. “Let the chargesheet get filed, I do not have to say anything. The matter is in the Court, let's wait for the verdict,” news agency ANI quoted Brij Bhushan as saying.
The development comes a few days after Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur assured that a chargesheet against the WFI chief will be filed by June 15. Wrestler Bajrang Punia had also said they had suspended their protest as of now, but would resume it if no action is taken on their demand.
Meanwhile, amid the investigations into the charges levelled against the BJP MP, Brij Bhushan Singh on Sunday announced that he plans to run for the Kaisarganj seat in the Lok Sabha elections next year.
Speaking at a rally in the Balpur area, Brij Bhushan chose not to directly address the allegations made against him by the wrestlers and instead focused his criticism on the Congress party, highlighting issues such as the Emergency, the Ram temple, and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as reported by news agency PTI.
It is to be noted that Brij Bhushan has consistently denied the allegations, asserting that Congress leaders from Haryana conspired against him due to his reforms as the WFI chief.
During his rally speech, he proclaimed the BJP's inevitable return to power in the 2024 elections, while criticizing the Congress party. He accused the Congress of the country's division during the Partition in 1947, the loss of territory to Pakistan in 1962, and the failure to settle the score after the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Singh suggested that with a prime minister like Narendra Modi, the land lost would have been reclaimed.
Delhi Police To File Chargesheet Tomorrow
According to sources, Delhi Police may file the chargesheet against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh around 12pm on Thursday.
