Three Indian Army personnel were injured after a landmine exploded in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, said the officials. Quoting preliminary information, the officials said that the three soldiers were patrolling Phagwari Gali area in Mendhar sector when the landmine got activated, as per a PTI report.
The injured personnel were shifted to a nearby medical facility and later two of them were referred to a military hospital in Rajouri for specialised treatment, the officials said.
The forward areas are dotted with landmines — as a part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system — which sometimes get washed away by rains resulting in such types of accidents, the officials said, the report added.
Last month, a soldier was wounded in a landmine explosion in J&K’s Rajouri district along the Line of Control (LoC), as per an IANS report.
The soldier was identified as Gurcharan Singh belonging to the Sikh light infantry, was injured in the explosion along the LoC in Kalsian area of Nowshera sector.
On October 3 this year, two Army porters were injured in a similar landmine explosion near the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after which they were evacuated to hospital for treatment, as per another PTI report.
The two injured were identified as Raj Kumar and Ashwani Kumar and hailed for Mangiote village who received splinter injuries in the explosion in forward Kalal area of Nowshera sector.
In a similar incident last year, nearly half a dozen landmines exploded along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district as a result of forest fire that started across the LOC and spread to the Indian side in the Mendhar district.
The landmines were spread out across the LoC as part of the anti-infiltration obstacle system.
The fire was brought under control but started again Daramshal block and spread fast due to powerful winds,” Forester Kanar Hussain Shah had told PTI.
